Scotty was adopted February 12, 2026! He is now known as Scotty Valentine-his new mom says he was her Valentine’s gift this year. He likes to spend lots of time in the backyard on squirrel patrol and of course, napping on his cozy bed.

Latha Math! That’s a Scottish greeting and it seemed like a good way to introduce you to this handsome hound named Scotty. Scotty came to us from the back roads of east Texas, where he was found wondering with nay a collar nor microchip. Scotty is a bit of a man o’ mystery, but we are guessing his age around 6 years old. Sadly, he appears to have had a rough time in his former life-his legs have a lot of scarring, he was quite underweight, and he needed a neuter and heartworm treatment when he arrived with us. During his neuter surgery, the doctor discovered he had a blocked salivary gland, called a mucocele. These are often the result of trauma (although of course we don’t know for sure). We treated that with steroids and antibiotics and shrunk it down to about half the size. It’s possible it may stay that way, but there is a chance it will need surgically removed in the future. It doesn’t seem to bother him and is only noticeable when he pulls on a leash, so we try to avoid that. Otherwise, Scotty is a very happy and healthy dog. He is finishing his heartworm treatment and will soon be cleared for regular activity. Speaking of activity, he’s a moderately active dog-he likes to play with toys and his foster sisters. Although he doesn’t do it regularly, he’s not above a little digging in the backyard and has managed to dig into the neighbors yard, so he will have to be watched for that. His favorite thing is to be petted. He can sit next to you for hours, as long as you’ll keep rubbing his ears. If you stop, he’ll climb into your lap and ask politely for more. He loves food and can get a little grabby for his treats, so a home without small children would be best. And like all good hounds, he has a lot to say! He has a large bark and isn’t afraid to use it-you might call it his own personal bagpipe. Scotty is kennel trained but prefers to be free, especially at bedtime, and has been fairly well behaved when left loose. He also has been completely potty trained in his foster home and uses a doggy door. If you’d like to meet Scotty, please apply at www.dfwbeaglebuddies.org/adopt!
